A compact, bright green foreground plant that forms a dense, structured carpet — one of the most popular choices in the aquascaping hobby.
Staurogyne repens is a low-growing stem plant native to the Rio Cristalino in Brazil. Its small, bright green leaves and dense, bushy growth habit make it one of the most versatile and reliable foreground and mid-ground plants available — equally at home in Nature Aquarium layouts and Dutch-style aquascapes. It responds exceptionally well to regular trimming, becoming progressively denser and more compact over time. Supplied as an in-vitro culture, it arrives free from pests, algae, and pathogens.
With CO₂ supplementation it forms a lush, tight carpet; without it, growth is slower but the plant remains healthy and attractive — making it accessible to low-tech and high-tech setups alike.
Key Benefits
- Compact, dense foreground or mid-ground plant — 2 to 5cm height
- Becomes denser and more structured with regular trimming
- Grows with or without CO₂ — CO₂ recommended for best results
- Bright green colour with excellent contrast against hardscape
- Safe for shrimp and fish
- Supplied in-vitro — pest, algae, and pathogen free
In the Aquascape
Plant in small portions close together in the foreground or mid-ground. Trim horizontally just above the substrate to encourage lateral growth and a denser carpet effect. Medium to high light produces the best results.
FAQ
Can it carpet without CO₂?
Yes, though growth will be slower and less dense. Medium to high light is recommended for best results without CO₂.
How do I trim it correctly?
Trim horizontally just above the substrate to encourage lateral growth and a denser carpet effect.
Is it suitable for shrimp tanks?
Yes — completely safe and provides excellent ground cover and grazing surfaces for shrimp.
