The Dennerle Plants CO2 Starter Kit is a complete biosystem based on the principle of yeast fermentation — a simple, inexpensive and eco-friendly solution for boosting plant growth in small aquariums. Sugar is fermented in a plastic bottle to produce CO₂, which is then introduced directly into the aquarium via a diffuser.

Depending on room temperature (optimally 20–25°C), the kit supplies your plants with CO₂ for up to 2 months. No complex equipment, no cylinders — just a hassle-free way to maintain optimal CO₂ levels and encourage lush, healthy plant growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the CO₂ last?
Up to 2 months depending on room temperature. Optimal performance is achieved between 20–25°C. Cooler rooms will slow fermentation and reduce CO₂ output.

When should I add the CO₂ Activator?
Refill the CO₂ Activator every 14 days or when CO₂ production drops to 5 bubbles per minute. This restarts the fermentation process and restores CO₂ output.

Is it suitable for large aquariums?
This kit is designed for small and nano aquariums. For tanks over 60 litres, a pressurised CO₂ system is recommended for consistent and controllable CO₂ delivery.

Is this CO₂ system safe for shrimp?
Yes, when used correctly. Maintain a stable CO₂ level and ensure adequate surface agitation to prevent CO₂ from building up excessively. Avoid running CO₂ at night when plants are not photosynthesising. Suitable for tanks housing Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp.

Can I get refills for this kit?
Yes. CO₂ Starter Refill packs are available separately in our store, so you can continue using the same equipment without purchasing a new kit.

How is this delivered?
All orders are dispatched from the UK with fully tracked delivery. The kit is carefully packed to ensure all components arrive intact and ready to use.
